WHAT WE’RE FIGHTING FOR

Jagriti has been working for empowerment of poor marginalized people at grassroots in Uttar Pradesh and Odisha and slums of Delhi. Jagriti is running various welfare programmes for holistic sustainable development of societies in these areas.

Krishna Colony Slum:
Krishna Colony is one of the largest slums in Uttam Nagar, West Delhi having approximately 10,000 households. It is surrounded by some other Jhuggi & Jhopri rehabilitation settlements. Most of the slum dwellers are illiterate and for their livelihood work as domestic workers, rickshaw pullers, waste pickers, construction workers or running petty shops. There are around 5000 youths, who’re mostly school dropouts with no skills. Most of the houses in the slums are kachha houses with plastic sheet roofs and some semi-pucca houses. The major issues in the slums have been lack of basic amenities like- drinking water, drainage system, proper roads, etc.
